Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgery that enlarges the breasts.
With breast augmentation, breast implants are placed under the breast tissue or muscles of the ribcage to achieve the desired breast size.
If you have problems with the appearance of your breasts as well as size, you can have a mastopexy (breast lift) or other reconstructive surgery at the same time.
If you want to increase your breasts, talk to your plastic surgeon about techniques, expectations, potential risks, implant size, and breast shape.
Women may prefer breast implants to make their breasts appear larger and fuller.
On the other hand, if you had one or both breasts removed because of breast cancer, you may need breast augmentation (a combination of reconstructive and cosmetic indications) to restore your breasts.
Therefore, breast augmentation is performed in the following cases:
Women with small breasts
Chest asymmetry
Removal of one or both breasts, possibly due to cancer
Changes in breast size, tone, or shape as a result of physiological processes such as aging, weight loss, and childbirth
For the most realistic and satisfying results, you should discuss your breast augmentation goals with your plastic surgeon.
After deciding to have breast augmentation and discussing it with your plastic surgeon, perform the following tests to determine if breast augmentation is an option for you.
Medical history review
Detailed physical examination
Required laboratory and radiological tests
Evaluation by an anesthesiologist and other laboratory and radiological tests to minimize anesthesia-related complications
After confirming that there are no risks from surgery, smokers are asked to stop smoking and to stop taking certain drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. You will also be asked about all other prescription and over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and dietary supplements and will be advised whether to continue or stop taking them.
In addition, you will be instructed to refrain from eating and drinking during a certain period of time before surgery.
Additionally, it is helpful to plan discharge, post-discharge accommodation, and travel at this stage to better manage the postoperative period.
Breast augmentation aims to make the breasts appear larger, firmer and more natural.
Clearly communicating your expectations to your plastic surgeon prior to breast augmentation surgery will maximize your satisfaction with the results and minimize the risk of implant removal or reoperation.
However, keep in mind the following points about breast augmentation surgery:
Breast augmentation does not eliminate the effects of aging on breasts.
After breast augmentation, the breasts may sag due to aging and weight gain.
Breast implants may wear and perforate over time. You may also need to replace the implant for other reasons. Breastfeeding may be more difficult than usual if you plan to become pregnant after breast augmentation.
Additional surgery may be required if you are not satisfied with the results and wish to have the implant removed.
Mammography, which is recommended for all women of a certain age, may be difficult or may require additional techniques or tests.
