Hernia Repair

Hernia Repair

Hiatal hernia symptoms can often be managed with medication, but most other types of hernia require surgical repair, though not always immediately. There are two main options;

Open hernia surgery;

A surgeon makes an incision in the groin to view and repair the hernia. After repairing the hernia, the surgeon closes the abdominal wall using sutures alone or sutures and mesh. The mesh is designed to reinforce weak areas of the abdominal wall where a herniation occurs.

Laparoscopic hernia surgery

Laparoscopic hernia surgery;

A surgeon makes several small incisions in the lower abdomen and inserts special instruments to view and repair the hernia. Surgeons commonly use mesh to close and strengthen the abdominal wall. Some surgeons choose robotic restorations. In other words, you sit at the console and control the robotic arm that performs the surgery.
