Mastectomy
It is a frequently performed operation in female-to-male transition surgeries.
The aim of this operation is to obtain an aesthetically healthy and more masculine appearance rather than a flat chest.
In this operation, most of the breast tissue is removed. If the nipple is similar to the male nipple, it is left, if it is proportionally different, it is reshaped by reconstruction.
After the operation, we host our patient in the hospital for 1 night. After a week, our patient can return to his work and social life.
In the mastectomy surgery performed in line with the demands of the individual in the transition of trans men, surgical intervention is performed according to the structure and size of the breast. A decrease or shrinkage in breast tissue can be seen in transgender individuals who have undergone hormone therapy. Breasts in this situation allow the operation to be performed in order to achieve the desired aesthetic appearance. The size of the skin covering the breast tissue during the operation is also an issue that should be considered during the operation. In the surgery, which includes two different applications as radical and simple mastectomy, in radical mastectomy, the muscles under the breast and the lymph nodes in the armpit are also removed together with the breast. Such mastectomy applications are usually performed to intervene in cancer cases. For every transgender man in transition, achieving physically masculine qualities is an important step in a deep, all-encompassing journey that involves not only one’s body but also the mind, spirit, and emotions. Upper surgery (also called a mastectomy) can provide a sculpted, flat chest that reflects the ideal image of a strong and confident man.
